Before last month I would have said that that was a lie, but now nothing supprises me.

after lady liberty gave a link to the new re-examine site, i found some details that are so disturbing its boggling my mind.. first, the original presidents were voted in, but not one vote per person but for every $10.00 contributed you received a vote.
so those already in power and with much money had tremendous sway as to who got in and who didn't.
this little scheme was not stopped until 1944.. so when rutherford was "elected by a unanimous vote" we can assume it was mainly of his own doing based on money contributed.
Before last month I would have said that that was a lie, but now nothing supprises me.

i know many have been hurt by association with the wts, but i was just wondering, are there any truths that you accually can take away from your association with it.
for instance, before becoming a jw i would recite the lord's prayer, and had never read in matt.
that is was not to be recited, but that it was mearly there as an example of how to pray.
Purple,
I think I've gained the same perspective.
And Blondie,
You're probably right!

fullofdoubtnow,
thanks for the welcome, nice to be here.
worst nightmare,
No doubt what happened to that 16 year old was and still is unconcionable, somethings in life leave lifelong scars and I fully understand the bitterness you feel and probably always will. The point of the post was not to jsutify the WTS it was simply a question. I am not leaving the orgainzation with bitter feeling because of some wrong that either the congrigation or someone in the congrigation did to me. I'm leaving because I can no longer justify their teachings. I see how they hurt people and how they contribute to the hurt of others. But I also learned some wonderful truths along the way.
I am trully sorry for your pain.
Respectfully,

i'm not saying that one thing justifies the other, I am on my way out of the organization because it doesn't. Guess I'm just trying to see the bright side of a bad situation.

Can anyone else relate a gem of truth that they would not know of except for the WTS?

i was talking to my mom and she has begun fulltime pioneering.. she is grieving over the loss of her son and its all just too much.. i told her to quit pioneering and take care of her.
she said , but i gave my word.. i said it makes me sick that you feel the pressure to do this and not give yourself time.
she is already feeling rundown and beginning to hate going out and it's just the second month!.
Dear Purplesofa
I am sorry to hear of your and your mother's loss. I'm sorry that I don't have the letter you are looking for, however maybe you can help your mom to appreciate that if you had a child that died she would not expect you to live up to any commitment that you made prior to that childs death. And our heavenly father is far more compassionate than we could ever be. So the fact that she gave her word in no way obligates her in God's eyes. I will be praying for you both.

Blondie,
To answer your question, -"Does he believe that it ONLY applies to people born in 1914 and before? He might be skirting around the issue with semantics."
No since I Brought to his attention the change in understanding he gets it. He just never thought there was new light, it went right over his head.
However I have a question about a point you bring up. You said, "So the recent information in The Watchtower about "this generation" did not change our understanding of what occurred in 1914. But it did give us a clearer grasp of Jesus' use of the term "generation," helping us to see that his usage was no basis for calculating-counting from 1914-how close to the end we are."
I agree that this should not be a basis for counting or calculating, but it seems to represent a time period and not the present understanding of a "wicked generation" that will be alive whenever the end comes. This can be seen by the verses in Matt. and Luke just before talking about the generation. These scriptures relate the generation to a time period ( the time between the fig trees budding and summer). So it seem to me that the generation that sees the begining should see the end, just further proof to me that 1914 is an incorrect date.
respectfully

Sorry,
My father-in-law an elder of over 50 years last week when i questioned him thought "this generation" still applied to people alive and aware in 1914. do you know of elders still holding to old teachings?
RV
are you angry that you ever got involved in this religion??
depressed??
confused??
I don't blame the borg, I joined and 26 years latter I am leaving. No use crying over spilt milk. My decisions brought some heartache but also some blessings, (my wife and family).
